Garth Theron

Data Platform Engineer

Garth is a senior data engineer and data platform engineer who thrives when things are in motion: start-ups, reorganisations and migrations. He takes ownership of technical decisions and delivers solutions to production in a way that is operable and maintainable over time. He often acts as a bridge between platform teams, product and the people who use the data. Garth has a clear voice, is willing to challenge established truths, and is known for bringing analysts, engineering and data science together around shared standards and ways of working.

Technically, he has extensive experience with Snowflake and AWS, but his strength lies in the patterns that transfer between platforms: solid data modelling and transformation practices (SQL/dbt), robust pipelines (Python/PySpark + orchestration), and the platform fundamentals around them (IaC, CI/CD, access management and self-service). He also has experience with lakehouse/Delta operationalisation and has contributed early to the establishment of Databricks in Azure.

Garth holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Oslo, and has previously worked as a senior data engineer at Itera and as a data engineer / data platform engineer at Schibsted Media and SpareBank 1.
